It could be the current economic climate or possibly the disposable lifestyle that is becoming more and more popular that has lead to a serious increase in the number of people who are interested in day car insurance in the UK. Day car insurance is a cost effective and productive way of getting the cover you need to get the job done.
The fact is as people have less money to spend they are often better off insuring another persons car for a day as opposed to renting which, historially, might have been the first choice. Some learners prefer to take our provisional insurance for a day rather than traditional lessons, this is a little different and covered elsewhere.

In years gone by you might have had a one stop broker for all your insurance needs, it was not uncommon for someone to call their broker if they needed some quotes for their house insuring, their wedding or more useful to this blog if they were after car insurance quotes for new drivers. The trusty broker would then contact a selection of insurers on their behalf and get the best quote. The broker often negotiated special rates with the insurers that the average customer would not be able to through pushing a high volume of clients to a specific insurer.

A few years ago the rumour was that everything was cheaper online, everything from holidays to car insurance should bought on the Internet. As the novelty of online shopping wore off so did the prices, or rather rumours of the prices that could be had. Cheap online car insurance quotes are still to be had today but you need to know what you are doing:

Lots of people, young drivers included, often want to get a quick car insurance quote online. This makes perfect sense as its often something you would do before you buy a new car to get an indication of what you might be paying or it might be something you do in order to work out the effect that a few points have on your licence after a conviction. Worse cast might be to check the rate increase if you are in an accident. More inocently you might just wonder what you would be paying for your insurance as a new driver.

When I say new driver you probably think of a 17 year old male who has just past his test with very little in the way of common sense, road experience or attention span. This is then coupled with an ego and the “petrol head” mentality. A combination that makes the new driver insurance premium something that can never be taken lightly. To help matters further this boy racer is usually a student!

When I hear people are searching for student car insurance or that companies are offering specific student car insurance I have to really question the offer and the people doing the search. For students who want their own policy and are not able to be added to their parents policy as so many like to do the following could be quite insightful

Personally I have never protected my no claims discount and I don’t think I ever will. I have a 71% no claims discount after 10 years of accident free motoring. This is a decision that you should give serious thought to and don’t just follow suit on what I have done.
The reason I don’t take this option is simple, I don’t like insurance companies or financial institutions and I view protecting no claims bonus as a kind of “protection money”.

To be allowed on the road the minimum insurance you must have is 3rd party insurance for the period of time you are driving – the minimum period is often a day, this type of cover basically means that if you are the cause of an accident the insurance company will pay for the damages incurred by any 3rd party but not by you.

I just wanted to make a post to clear something up after I had an email today from a new driver, someone who had just passed her test but had not yet bought a car or done any of the leg work around what is a good first car to insure.

As a new driver having a vehicle means a new world of freedom you have not previously had access to. You’re not bound by public transportation. You don’t have to beg and plead with your family or friends to get a ride. You can go wherever you want whenever you want. Having a vehicle along with added freedom also means that there is added responsibility. The responsibility includes having to get car insurance. However, unfortunately for new drivers or young drivers you will have to pay a higher insurance premium.
