Thinking of putting yourself on your parents insurance as a new driver

When you see how much young driver insurance actually costs it’s tempting to look to adding yourself as a second driver onto your parent (or another more experienced drivers) insurance policy. It’s quite easy to add a second driver and it does usually have a lower overall premium than taking out your own young drivers insurance. This is especially beneficial for new drivers who are not classed as young. The reason for this is that some insurance companies do ask when opening up a policy to other drivers if any of them are below the age of 21 but it is rare for them to ask if any drivers have less than x years experience. This would allow a new driver in the mid 20s to be added to the policy at a reasonable cost.

Tips for staying safe as a new driver

You have passed that test at last and you have just paid a fortune for some new driver insurance so it’s out onto the road, when you have been driving for a few years it’s quite rare to “go for a drive” and you usually only do it when you have a need to get somewhere, however, in the early years “going for a drive” is both fun and useful in terms of gaining experiance.

Clearing up a few things about the new drivers act

The general rule is that if you build up more than 12 points on your driving licence within a three year period you will lose your licence. Of course there are loopholes and extreme things you can do to try to wriggle out of this should the situation occur but these tactics will always cost you money and the whole situation is quite unpleasant and best avoided if at all possible.
